Brooklyn: Third Spaces for Getting those Games IN
#1
Brick
Figured this would be a good thread to start  Smile !

I always feel like I don't want folks to feel discomforted coming to my pad for a game, especially a game for the first time, so was curious what folks go-tos are for third (non-paid or like a coffee) spaces for rolling dice.

I used to like Cafe Underground in Boshwjck but that closed down last year sadly  Cry

I run the occasional game at Twenty-Sided in Williamsburg! Lauren is a good friend and a real pillar of the scenes here in town. I used to run at Hex & Co back in the day, but they A) have raised their table prices, and B) I've heard from multiple former paid GMs that their management is less than totally chill.

The new Brooklyn Strategist location has tables but I don't know their pricing off hand. There's also Brooklyn Game Knight in Industry City.

The Strategist is a good call, too, yeah.

There's also the Brooklyn OSR Meetup Discord Server. They do various events at multiple locations, but they might be another option if you're hunting.

Oh, there's also Saison Zero at Wonderville on certain Sunday afternoons! I always want to go but I have my own game that afternoon.

Depending on time of day and time constraints, it's possible that public libraries are an option. I know Brooklyn PL has a two-hour limit on meeting rooms, but I am pretty sure that some of my local Queens libraries have enough space you can just sit and run a game for three hours with no problem. I know teen groups do.

One option I've been investigating is the few privately owned public spaces (POPS) that have seating (and in some cases, climate control). There is a website with a listing here: https://apops.mas.org/ Most of the better places are in Manhattan, I believe.

I also noticed this website. Not sure if it's helpful or not, but it might be worthwhile peeking at: https://thirdplaces.nyc/
